Infosys Public Services CEO Lax Gopisetty is currently unreachable following the devastating flash floods that have caused widespread destruction across parts of Nepal.
Infosys confirmed that Gopisetty was visiting the region in a personal capacity when the disaster struck. The IT major said its immediate focus is on establishing contact with him and ensuring his safety and well-being.
In a statement, Infosys said it is working with relevant agencies to gather information and locate Gopisetty. The company has also maintained close communication with his family and is providing them with necessary support during the crisis.
Who is Lax Gopisetty?
Gopisetty heads Infosys Public Services, a subsidiary of Infosys that primarily works with public-sector organisations in the United States and Canada.
Before becoming CEO, he served as a Global Vice President at Infosys, where he led the Business Applications and Digital Workspace Services business across the Americas, Europe and Asia.
He previously worked as a Managing Director at Accenture, leading part of its Health and Public Services business in North America. His professional career has also included roles at BearingPoint, IBM, PwC and HCL.
Nepal flood disaster
Gopisetty's disappearance comes as Nepal continues to deal with one of its most devastating recent natural disasters.
The flash floods along the Nepal-Tibet border have killed hundreds and left thousands of people missing. Rescue operations have been severely affected by damaged roads, bridges and other infrastructure.
India's Ministry of External Affairs said 320 Indians remained unaccounted for, while hundreds of others were stranded on the Chinese side of the border. Some Indian nationals have already been safely brought back to Nepal.
With communications disrupted across several affected areas, authorities are continuing efforts to trace missing people and reach those stranded in remote locations.
For Gopisetty's family and colleagues, the immediate priority remains establishing contact and confirming his safety.
