Bihar Police achieved a significant breakthrough in their ongoing campaign against liquor smuggling after uncovering a sophisticated concealment method used by bootleggers in Bagaha, West Champaran district.
Acting on specific intelligence, law enforcement officials intercepted a truck during a routine inspection. While the vehicle appeared normal from the outside, a detailed search revealed a specially designed hidden compartment inside the engine section, where hundreds of cartons of illegal foreign liquor had been concealed to avoid detection.
Officials estimated the value of the seized liquor at around ₹5.82 crore, making it one of the region's major liquor seizures. The operation exposed the increasingly advanced techniques being used by smugglers to transport alcohol into Bihar, where prohibition laws remain in force.
Police immediately seized the truck and registered a case under the relevant provisions of the Bihar Prohibition and Excise Act. Investigators are now working to identify the individuals behind the operation and trace the source and intended destination of the consignment.
Authorities said smugglers are constantly adopting new methods to bypass security checks, including modifying vehicle compartments and disguising liquor consignments among legitimate cargo. They reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening surveillance and taking strict action against those involved in illegal liquor trade.
The seizure highlights the continuing challenge faced by enforcement agencies in implementing Bihar's prohibition policy and dismantling organized smuggling networks operating across state borders.
