Anxiety has gripped a family in Assam after their relative reportedly went missing in the devastating floods that struck parts of Nepal.
The missing man has been identified as Rahul Daimari, a resident of Jaipukhuri village in the Merapani area of Assam's Golaghat district. He is believed to have been caught in the floodwaters in the Trishuli Khola area of Nuwakot district, one of the regions badly affected by the disaster.
Rahul was working for a pipeline company, Andrex, in Nepal. He had previously been employed in Bhutan and was recently transferred to Nepal for work.
According to his family, Rahul had returned to Assam following the death of his father. After completing the funeral rituals, he travelled back to Nepal on August 14 to resume his job.
The family learned about his disappearance after Rahul's name appeared on a list of Assam residents who remain untraced in Nepal following the floods.
So far, the family says it has not received information about Rahul's whereabouts from either his employer or Nepalese authorities. His relatives are now appealing to the Assam government to intensify efforts to trace him and ensure his safe return.
The case comes amid a wider search for Indians and other foreign nationals who remain unaccounted for after the catastrophic flooding in Nepal. Assam authorities have been coordinating with families and relevant agencies to establish contact with missing residents.
Nepal's Ministry of Foreign Affairs has also established an Emergency Response Team to coordinate search, rescue, information verification and consular assistance for foreign nationals affected by the floods.
As rescue operations continue in difficult conditions, Rahul's family remains hopeful that authorities will locate him and bring him home safely.
