CNG prices have gone up in Delhi, giving motorists another shock. Indraprastha Gas Limited (IGL) has increased the CNG price by Rs 3.89 per kg, effective from 6 am on August 29.
With the latest hike, CNG in Delhi now costs Rs 86.98 per kg, up from Rs 83.09 earlier.The latest revision takes the total increase in Delhi CNG prices this year to nearly Rs 10 per kg. At the beginning of the year, CNG was priced at Rs 77.09 per kg.
Prices have also increased in neighbouring cities. CNG now costs Rs 95.59 per kg in Noida and Ghaziabad, while the price in Gurugram stands at Rs 92.01 per kg.However, there is no change in the price of piped natural gas (PNG) supplied to households in Delhi. PNG continues to cost Rs 49.59 per standard cubic metre.
IGL attributed the hike to a sharp rise in international LNG prices, following the renewed West Asia crisis and disruptions to LNG cargo movements through the Strait of Hormuz.
The company said global LNG prices have nearly doubled since July compared with pre-crisis levels. Rising demand in Europe ahead of the winter season has also added pressure to international gas prices.
IGL said the higher input gas cost has made a calibrated price revision necessary to partly offset the increase while ensuring continuous and reliable CNG supplies.Despite the hike, the company maintained that CNG in Delhi remains one of the more economical fuel options for consumers.
