Chennai, June 6: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast heavy rainfall in the Western Ghats region of Tamil Nadu over the next few days, raising concerns over possible disruptions in hilly and low-lying areas.
According to weather officials, the intense rainfall activity is likely to be triggered by prevailing atmospheric conditions over the southwest region, which may intensify monsoon activity in parts of southern India.
Districts located along the Western Ghats, including hilly and forested regions, are expected to receive isolated heavy to very heavy showers. Authorities have advised residents in vulnerable areas to remain cautious, particularly in regions prone to landslides and flash floods.
Disaster management teams have been kept on alert, and local administrations have been instructed to monitor water levels in rivers, streams, and reservoirs closely. Fishermen and tourists have also been advised to exercise caution due to rough weather conditions.
Officials said further updates will be issued based on the evolution of weather systems over the coming days.
