BJP Lok Sabha MP Tejasvi Surya has strongly criticised the Congress-led Karnataka government over its proposed tunnel road projects in Bengaluru. Surya alleged that the government is eyeing a ₹40,000-crore “treasure” through the tunnel projects and has amended laws related to parks and lakes to overcome legal hurdles. He particularly opposed the proposed short tunnel road through Hebbal Lake, alleging that the government has reduced the lake buffer zone from 30 metres to just 3 metres.
Surya warned that such changes could threaten Bengaluru’s lakes, groundwater and aquifers. He urged the government to withdraw the amendments and said the BJP would continue its fight.
Meanwhile, Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar defended the projects and challenged critics to also seek a halt to tunnel road projects in Delhi and Maharashtra.
