Karnataka Minister Ramalinga Reddy on Wednesday said the state would find it difficult to release 12,000 cusecs of Cauvery water daily to Tamil Nadu as directed by the Cauvery Water Management Authority.
The Cauvery Water Regulation Committee, which met in New Delhi on Tuesday, had directed Karnataka to release 12,000 cusecs of water every day to Tamil Nadu for 15 days starting August 12. The Cauvery Water Management Authority later upheld the decision.
Reddy said he had discussed the issue with Chief Minister D K Shivakumar and senior officials. He said the Chief Minister had also spoken to Karnataka's Advocate General and lawyers in Delhi.
Tamil Nadu's petition is scheduled to come up before the Supreme Court on Thursday. Karnataka's lawyers are expected to present the state's objections during the hearing.
Reddy said the state government would decide its next course of action after the Supreme Court hearing and assured that Karnataka would take steps to ensure that no injustice was done to the state.
