In a move aimed at safeguarding student health, the Maharashtra government has announced a ban on the sale of energy drinks within a 500-metre radius of all schools across the state.
Officials said the decision was taken due to growing concerns over the consumption of high-caffeine beverages, such as Sting, among children and adolescents. Health experts have warned that excessive intake of such drinks can negatively impact childrenโs physical and mental well-being.
Under the new rule, shops located near school premises will not be permitted to sell energy drinks. Authorities have stated that strict enforcement measures will be implemented, and violations will attract legal action under relevant regulations.
The government also plans to conduct awareness campaigns in schools to educate students about healthy dietary habits and the potential risks associated with energy drink consumption.
The move has received positive responses from education stakeholders and parents, who view it as a step toward improving child health and safety in school environments.
