The Maharashtra Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has suspended the licences of four Domino's Pizza outlets and one Pizza Hut outlet after inspections uncovered serious hygiene and food safety violations. The action is part of an intensified statewide drive to improve food safety standards.
According to officials, inspectors found grease deposits inside pizza-making machines, insect infestations, poor pest-control measures, and unhygienic kitchen conditions at several Domino's outlets. At the Pizza Hut outlet, authorities found food products that lacked expiry date labels, raising concerns over food safety and quality.
The inspection campaign was launched under Maharashtra's Food Safety Department, which has recently increased surprise inspections across restaurants and food establishments. On a single day, officials inspected more than 100 food outlets and issued improvement notices to 95 of them for various violations.
Officials said strict action would continue against establishments that fail to comply with food safety regulations. The companies operating the affected outlets have not yet issued detailed public responses regarding the suspensions.
