A 30-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the death of a 39-year-old woman near Songadh Fort in Gujarat's Tapi district, police said.
The woman, identified as Manisha, was found near a dumping area close to the historic fort, leading authorities to launch an immediate investigation. Multiple police teams, including the Local Crime Branch (LCB) and Special Operations Group (SOG), worked together to identify and locate the suspect.
According to investigators, Manisha, originally from Ahmedabad, had been staying with her aunt in Songadh and was known to have been in a relationship with the accused, Mahesh Gamit. Police believe tensions had recently developed between the two due to personal differences.
As the investigation progressed, officers gathered evidence linking Gamit to the case. Following questioning, he was taken into custody and later arrested. Authorities stated that he has been remanded to judicial custody while further legal proceedings continue.
The case has drawn attention in the local community, with residents expressing sadness over the loss of life. Police have assured that a thorough investigation is being carried out.
Manisha is survived by her two children, a 20-year-old son and a 15-year-old daughter, who reside in Ahmedabad.
