The Central Bureau of Narcotics (CBN) has seized a massive consignment of 66,79,980 psychotropic tablets on the Chandigarh-Baddi route as part of “Operation Vajra 2.0.”
The seized drugs include 59,08,100 Alprazolam, 7,47,780 Tramadol, 23,700 Nitrazepam and 400 Clonazepam tablets. One person has been arrested, and the truck allegedly used to transport the consignment has been seized.
Acting on intelligence inputs, a special CBN team kept an overnight watch on the Chandigarh-Baddi interstate route. On August 27, officers intercepted a suspicious truck with a Uttar Pradesh registration.
A detailed search led to the recovery of 120 master cartons containing controlled medicines hidden inside the cargo.
Officials found that batch numbers, manufacturing dates and expiry dates had been erased from several blister strips and boxes. Some medicines were also marked “Not to be sold in Punjab Haryana State”, but were allegedly being transported into the region.
The consignment was reportedly being transported without valid invoices, bills or e-way bills. After a sealing and inventory process that lasted more than 14 hours, the entire consignment and truck were seized under the NDPS Act, 1985.
The CBN is now investigating the manufacturing sources and distribution network behind the alleged illegal diversion of pharmaceutical drugs.
The agency said that so far in 2026, it has registered 197 cases, arrested 272 people and dismantled six clandestine drug-manufacturing laboratories across the country. It has also seized around 51,000 kg of narcotic drugs and more than 12.7 crore psychotropic tablets and capsules nationwide.
