Hyderabad police have apprehended a minor allegedly involved in the illegal transportation of ganja from Visakhapatnam to New Delhi. Officials seized 48 kg of dry ganja, packed in 24 packets and concealed inside two air bags.
The seized contraband, along with a mobile phone, was estimated to be worth around ₹24.50 lakh, according to police.
Deputy Commissioner of Police, Task Force, Vaibhav Gaikwad Raghunath said three other suspected peddlers and a transporter were absconding. They were identified as Bandiya from New Delhi, Noushad alias Sunil and Rajesh from Visakhapatnam, and Ankit Kumar alias Shiva from Bihar.
Minor Allegedly Lured Into Drug Transport
According to police, the minor had studied up to intermediate level and was working as a delivery boy. Due to financial difficulties and low income, he allegedly came into contact with Ankit Kumar, who had known him since childhood.
Police said Ankit allegedly persuaded the minor to transport ganja in exchange for quick money. He then introduced him to Bandiya, who was allegedly involved in procuring and selling the contraband.
Following Bandiya's instructions, Ankit and the minor travelled to Visakhapatnam, where they allegedly collected the ganja from Noushad and Rajesh.
Caught Near Nampally
The duo allegedly planned to transport the contraband to New Delhi by train. The ganja was packed into 24 sealed packets and concealed inside two air bags and two large briefcases.
After reaching Secunderabad Railway Station, they reportedly took an auto-rickshaw to Nampally Railway Station. During the journey, Ankit allegedly got out of the auto, claiming he would check train timings for their onward journey.
He allegedly instructed the minor to get down near a function hall in Nampally and wait for him. The minor reached the location carrying the luggage, where police intercepted and detained him.
Police have launched a further investigation to trace the absconding suspects and establish the wider network involved in the alleged transportation and distribution of ganja.
