Prime Minister Narendra Modi has hailed the smooth conduct of the NEET-UG 2026 re-examination, describing it as an example of effective coordination and teamwork among various government departments and agencies.
The re-examination was conducted on June 21 after the original NEET-UG exam held on May 3 was cancelled due to allegations of a paper leak. The government and the National Testing Agency (NTA) introduced several new security measures to ensure a fair and transparent examination process.
Extensive Coordination Behind Re-Exam
According to officials, the successful conduct of the examination was made possible through close coordination between the Ministry of Education, NTA, state governments, district administrations, police departments and intelligence agencies. Special monitoring mechanisms and security protocols were put in place to prevent any irregularities.
Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan had chaired multiple review meetings before the examination and stressed the importance of transparency, integrity and student welfare.
Focus on Student Welfare
Authorities implemented several measures to ensure that students could appear for the examination without unnecessary stress. State officials were instructed to provide essential facilities and ensure smooth logistics at examination centres.
In a gesture that drew attention nationwide, Prime Minister Narendra Modi reportedly delayed his departure from Delhi airport to avoid traffic disruptions that could affect students travelling to exam centres.
Enhanced Security Measures
The government significantly tightened security arrangements for the re-examination. Nationwide mock drills, secure transportation of examination materials and coordination with local authorities were among the key measures adopted to maintain the integrity of the exam.
More than 22 lakh medical aspirants appeared for the re-examination across India and selected international centres. Officials described the overall process as orderly and largely free from major disruptions.
Restoring Confidence in the Examination System
The successful conduct of the re-exam is being viewed as an important step toward restoring public confidence in the country's largest medical entrance examination. The paper leak allegations had triggered widespread concern among students and parents, leading to demands for stricter safeguards.
Government officials said the experience would help strengthen examination systems further and improve transparency in future national-level entrance tests.
