PM Modi Chooses Metro for SRCC Visit

Prime Minister Narendra Modi travelled by Delhi Metro on Saturday as he headed towards Shri Ram College of Commerce in North Delhi. The unusual commute attracted attention as the Prime Minister interacted with students and other passengers during the journey.

Videos from the journey showed Modi carrying a Metro card and engaging in conversations with commuters and students.

He later reached SRCC to participate in the institution’s centenary celebrations.

SRCC Completes 100 Years

Established in 1926 by industrialist and philanthropist Sir Shri Ram, SRCC has completed a century as one of India's prominent institutions for commerce, economics and management.

Over the decades, the college has produced scholars, entrepreneurs, professionals, administrators, policymakers and other leaders who have contributed to public life and the economy.

The college has planned year-long centenary celebrations featuring academic, cultural and other events.

Modi Returns to SRCC After 13 Years

The visit marks Prime Minister Modi’s return to SRCC after more than a decade. He had previously visited the institution in 2013, when he was serving as the Chief Minister of Gujarat.

Earlier this year, Modi met members of the SRCC governing body and a college delegation at his residence in connection with the institution’s centenary. He also released a commemorative postage stamp marking 100 years of SRCC.

Centenary Event Coincides With Teachers’ Day

The SRCC centenary celebrations are being held on September 5, Teachers’ Day, giving the occasion an added significance.

Modi was scheduled to address the gathering at 7 PM. The Prime Minister had earlier praised SRCC for its contribution to academic excellence, institution-building and the nurturing of generations of leaders in business, public life and society.

Union Education Minister Pralhad Joshi was also scheduled to attend the programme.

Focus on Students and Young India

The Prime Minister’s interaction with students comes as SRCC marks a major institutional milestone. The event brings together current students along with alumni, former faculty members and other members of the college community.

The Metro journey also provided Modi an opportunity to engage directly with students and ordinary commuters before reaching the campus.
