Bengaluru Traffic Woes Spark Fresh Debate After Viral Cyclist Video
Bengaluru's persistent traffic congestion has once again come under the spotlight after a viral video captured an unusual scene: a commuter carrying his bicycle on his shoulders while attempting to navigate a massive traffic jam.
The clip, shared on Instagram by user Aakanksha, quickly gained traction online, resonating with residents who say it reflects the everyday commuting challenges faced in India's technology capital. What started as a light-hearted social media post soon sparked a broader discussion about the city's worsening traffic conditions, inadequate pedestrian infrastructure, and growing mobility concerns.
Cycling Fails to Provide an Escape
Bicycles are often promoted as a practical alternative to Bengaluru's notorious bumper-to-bumper traffic. However, the viral footage suggests that even cyclists are not immune to the city's congestion problems.
The video shows a man stranded amid a long queue of vehicles. Unable to ride through the gridlock, he is seen lifting his bicycle onto his shoulders and walking along the crowded road in an effort to continue his journey.
Sharing the clip, Aakanksha humorously captioned it: "Buddy thought he'd escape traffic and auto drivers and save time by cycling to work. But bro ended up carrying his cycle like RCB carried their trophy."
The video has since triggered widespread reactions on social media, with many users highlighting the urgent need for better urban planning, dedicated cycling infrastructure, and improved traffic management in the city.
