Renowned Telugu actor and Padma Shri awardee Dr. Rajendra Prasad was felicitated by the Philadelphia Telugu Community at a grand and heartfelt ceremony on Sunday, August 9.
The event was held at the Byers Station Club House in Chester Springs, Pennsylvania, under the leadership of Ravi Potluri to honor Rajendra Prasad for receiving the prestigious Padma Shri award from the Government of India. A large number of Telugu community members, organization representatives, and fans attended the celebration.
During the event, speakers lauded Rajendra Prasad’s remarkable nearly five-decade journey in the Indian film industry. With his distinctive performances, especially in comedy as well as a wide range of memorable roles, he has earned a special place in the hearts of millions of audiences.
The Philadelphia Telugu community also presented a donation of ₹8 lakh to Rajendra Prasad’s charitable trust, assuring him of their continued support and cooperation.
Community members shared their memories and association with the veteran actor and felicitated him with shawls, flower garlands, and commemorative mementos.
Speaking on the occasion, Rajendra Prasad expressed his heartfelt gratitude to the Telugu diaspora for their affection and support. He said that despite being thousands of miles away from India, the love shown by Telugu people overseas makes him feel as though he is in the lap of his motherland.
Rajendra Prasad said that the love of Telugu audiences has been his greatest strength throughout his long acting career. He humbly stated that the Padma Shri is not merely an individual honor, but a recognition that belongs to all the Telugu audiences who have supported and encouraged him over the years.
He added that after nearly 49 years in the film industry, bringing smiles to audiences and earning a permanent place in their hearts is greater than any award.
