The Consulate General of India in San Francisco celebrated India’s Independence Day on August 15 at the historic Gadar Memorial Hall. Led by Consul General K. Srikar Reddy, the event brought together Bay Area residents, Indian-American community leaders and families to commemorate India’s freedom struggle and the historic role of the Gadar Party.

Recalling the deep historical ties between India and San Francisco, Reddy said that a part of India’s independence history was forged right in the city. He also read excerpts from President Droupadi Murmu’s Independence Day address, paying tribute to freedom fighters and highlighting citizen empowerment.

The celebrations featured the unfurling of the Indian tricolor, followed by vibrant patriotic and cultural performances by local youth and artists. Reddy also highlighted the consulate’s emergency services for the Indian diaspora, including urgent visa and same-day travel certificate services available on weekends and public holidays from 2 PM to 4 PM.

A dedicated 24/7 emergency helpline is also operational to assist Indian citizens facing critical situations in the region.
