British right-wing political commentator Milo Yiannopoulos has been deported from the United States after being detained by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).
The 41-year-old, a former editor of Breitbart News and one-time political aide to rapper Kanye West, was arrested on August 27 at Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport.
According to the US Department of Homeland Security, Yiannopoulos entered the US in May 2019 and overstayed his legal status, violating US immigration laws. He was subsequently sent back to the United Kingdom.
Yiannopoulos was once a vocal supporter of Donald Trump, but has since become a critic of the US president while continuing to support parts of his political agenda.
He has frequently courted controversy over his comments on transgender people, Muslims, feminists and other issues. In 2017, he was disinvited from the Conservative Political Action Conference after controversial remarks resurfaced, and he later resigned from Breitbart.
Far-right commentator Laura Loomer claimed credit for his ICE arrest, saying Yiannopoulos had already left the US and would never be allowed to return.
