Team India has withdrawn from its scheduled tour of Bangladesh. According to the ICC schedule, India was expected to travel to Bangladesh, but the series could not go ahead after the Indian government did not grant clearance amid ongoing differences between the two countries. The BCCI announced the decision on social media, dealing a major blow to the Bangladesh Cricket Board.
India, however, will now host Afghanistan for a three-match T20I series in New Delhi. The Afghanistan Cricket Board will be the host board, while all three matches will be played at the Arun Jaitley Stadium.
The first T20I is scheduled for September 13, followed by the second on September 15 and the third and final match on September 19.
The Afghanistan Cricket Board has been using venues in India and Dubai for its home series in recent years. India will therefore technically play as the touring side despite the matches being held on home soil.
BCCI President Mithun Manhas assured that the board would continue to support the development of Afghan cricket. He also said the BCCI is keen to strengthen cricketing ties with Afghanistan and play as many bilateral series against them as possible in the future.
