Sudharsan Missed Sri Lanka Test Series
Sudharsan suffered a toe injury during India A's second unofficial Test against Sri Lanka A. He subsequently missed India's two-Test series against Sri Lanka after doctors advised him to allow more time for the injury to heal.
He continued his rehabilitation at the BCCI Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru.
‘It Wasn't Frustrating at All’
Speaking about the rehabilitation period, Sudharsan said he did not view the break negatively.
“It’s not frustrating at all. It’s just the journey we are going through,” he said, adding that players need to understand how their bodies respond and constantly refine their habits.
Happy to Be Back in the Middle
Sudharsan returned to competitive cricket in the India A match against Australia A. He scored a half-century in his first innings and was on course for another fifty in the second innings before being dismissed while attempting a sweep against Todd Murphy.
The 24-year-old said returning to the middle reminded him of how much he had missed playing cricket.
“When I played on the first day, that’s when I felt how badly I missed that feeling of playing in the middle,” Sudharsan said.
Lessons From the Australia A Match
Sudharsan also reflected on his batting during the match. He said it was important to put pressure on the bowlers and keep attacking on wickets of that nature.
However, he felt he could have converted his starts into bigger innings. The dismissal after getting set provided another learning experience for the young batter.
Focus on Upcoming International Assignments
Sudharsan is now looking ahead to India's upcoming assignments. His experience of playing in England and Australia could help him prepare for the conditions expected in New Zealand.
He said players can use their previous experiences to simulate different conditions and identify what they need to work on before entering a new series.
Looking Ahead to the Border-Gavaskar Trophy
Sudharsan also pointed towards the Border-Gavaskar Trophy as another important assignment. He believes there will be sufficient time after the New Zealand series to prepare for the next major challenge.
Conclusion
Sai Sudharsan has used his injury-enforced break as an opportunity to learn and improve rather than viewing it simply as a setback. His return for India A against Australia A included a half-century, and he is now focused on refining his game and preparing for India's upcoming international assignments.
