Star batter Virat Kohli created history during Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s (RCB) IPL 2026 match against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in Raipur on Wednesday. Kohli played his 279th IPL match, becoming the player with the most appearances in the tournament’s history. He went past MS Dhoni and Rohit Sharma, who were tied with him at 278 matches before the game.
RCB captain Rajat Patidar won the toss and chose to bowl first at Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh International Stadium. Patidar said the pitch could offer variable bounce, similar to the previous match played at the venue. He added that the team is high on confidence after a recent win and is focused on maintaining consistency.
RCB are currently second on the IPL points table with seven wins from 11 matches and are aiming to secure a playoff spot. Meanwhile, Kolkata Knight Riders, led by Ajinkya Rahane, are looking to continue their four-match winning streak and stay alive in the playoff race.
