Meta has unveiled major updates for its video-editing app Edits, including an upcoming AI-powered assistant and a desktop version. The announcement was made during an invite-only creator event in Los Angeles.
The new AI assistant will help creators analyze Instagram performance data, understand audience engagement, generate content ideas, and identify trending audio. Meta says the tool is designed to help creators make better content without relying on external AI services.
A desktop version of Edits is also coming soon, allowing users to edit videos on larger screens and seamlessly switch between mobile and desktop workflows. This move strengthens Meta’s competition with ByteDance’s CapCut.
Starting today, Edits users will also get access to a new Beta tab for testing experimental features, deeper audience insights, topic-based content discovery, and tools to create multiple versions of videos before publishing.
Meta says content created with Edits sees a 10% higher save rate and a 2% higher reshare rate compared to content made outside the app. The AI assistant is currently being tested with select creators, while the desktop version will launch in the near future.
