Hyderabad’s art and cultural landscape has gained a new destination with the launch of the new EkChitra Art Gallery, an expansive space designed to accommodate large exhibitions and a wide range of artistic disciplines.

Founded by artist and curator Annapurna Madipadiga, the gallery has been designed to go beyond the conventional exhibition format, offering space for paintings, sculptures, textiles, ceramics, photography, installations, mixed-media works and performances.

A Space for Different Art Forms

The new gallery features a flexible layout that allows exhibitions to be presented on a larger scale. The idea is to create an environment where artworks can be displayed according to their creative requirements rather than being restricted by limited gallery space.

EkChitra plans to work with both emerging and established artists, bringing traditional practices and contemporary forms together under one roof.

Permanent Printmaking Studio

One of the key highlights of the new gallery is its permanent printmaking studio.

The facility is intended to encourage artists to explore printmaking, while also creating opportunities for workshops, experimentation, learning and collaboration.

More Than an Exhibition Space

EkChitra is also planning to host artist talks, workshops, film screenings, performances, educational programmes and public conversations.

The gallery's expansion represents its evolution from a curatorial platform into a permanent cultural space focused on both exhibiting and engaging with art.

‘Transition’ Opens the New Gallery

The new venue opens with an exhibition titled ‘Transition: A Continuity to Change — An Ode to Identities in Flux’.

The exhibition brings together young artists from across India working across mediums including textiles, sculpture, painting, ceramics and printmaking. The works explore themes such as identity, cultural memory, tradition and transformation.

A New Chapter for Hyderabad’s Art Scene

The launch was attended by several personalities from Hyderabad’s art and cultural community, including art connoisseur Anju Poddar, filmmaker Deva Katta, director Venkatesh Maha, architect Anand Sai and artists from the city’s art fraternity.

With its larger exhibition areas and multidisciplinary programming, EkChitra aims to become a space where artists, collectors, designers, architects, researchers and art enthusiasts can interact and collaborate.
