Police in Hanumakonda district cracked a major temple theft case within just 24 hours after burglars stole silver ornaments from the Sri Rama temple in Gudepadu village of Atmakur mandal. The accused broke open the sanctum doors late Monday night and escaped with 1,080 grams of silver items worth around Rs. 2.43 lakh.
Acting swiftly on the complaint, Atmakur police launched an investigation and arrested two interstate property offenders from Andhra Pradesh on Tuesday morning during vehicle inspections. The stolen silver articles were recovered completely from their car.
The prime accused, Kallakuri Kiran Babu from Bhimavaram, is a history-sheeter involved in nearly 50 property offences across Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. The second accused, Kadavakallu Sandeep Kumar, belongs to Anantapur district. Police said the duo confessed to committing the theft and hiding the stolen property in their vehicle.
Warangal Police Commissioner appreciated the Atmakur police team for solving the case quickly and achieving 100 percent recovery of the stolen property. Villagers and devotees, who were worried after the temple burglary, expressed relief and happiness over the prompt police action.
