A landmark chapter in Hyderabad’s technology history is coming to an end, with the city’s first IT tower in Begumpet set to be demolished.
The building, constructed in 1987, was home to Intergraph Consulting, the first American multinational company to establish operations in Hyderabad. The facility played a significant role during the early days of the city’s IT growth and became a symbol of Hyderabad’s emergence as a technology hub.
According to police officials, the building management decided to demolish the structure after damage was detected in the underground water sump, raising concerns over the safety and stability of the building.
The demolition marks the end of a nearly four-decade-old structure that witnessed the early development of Hyderabad’s information technology sector. The building remained an important reminder of the city’s journey from an emerging technology destination to a global IT hub.
Authorities are monitoring the demolition process to ensure safety measures are followed during the removal of the structure.
