Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has directed officials to prepare a comprehensive action plan to transform Visakhapatnam into a world-class “Bay City.”

Addressing a review meeting on the Visakha Economic Region (VER), attended by collectors from nine districts, public representatives, and senior officials, the Chief Minister outlined a detailed roadmap for tourism, infrastructure, and economic development across the region.

Bay City Development Plan

The Chief Minister instructed officials to develop the proposed Bay City project stretching from Kailasagiri to Bhogapuram. He also suggested setting up a dedicated Project Monitoring Unit (PMU) for the Visakha Economic Region to ensure effective coordination and timely implementation of projects.

He further directed the construction of a convention centre on 303 acres belonging to the Endowments Department and emphasized developing the Kailasagiri area as both a spiritual and tourism hub.

Tourism and Infrastructure Push

Naidu called for attracting investments in beach-based recreational projects, including water sports and entertainment facilities, aimed at enhancing visitor experience for all age groups. He also stressed modernising Visakhapatnam’s city infrastructure and boosting its appeal as a major tourist destination.

The Chief Minister highlighted the need to develop unique tourism assets such as the Erra Matti Dibbalu (Red Sand Dunes) and Buddhist heritage sites.

Focus on Godavari Region Tourism

Highlighting tourism potential in the Godavari region, he noted that the Akhanda Godavari Project in Rajamahendravaram, along with the Polavaram Project and Papikondalu, could become major tourist attractions. He said strengthening infrastructure in these areas would attract large-scale tourism investments.

Industrial Townships and Public Participation

Naidu also directed officials to develop townships near upcoming industrial zones and suggested making the NITI Aayog report on the Visakha Economic Region public to invite suggestions from students, intellectuals, and stakeholders.

Senior leaders, including Union Minister Kinjarapu Ram Mohan Naidu, Ministers K. Atchannaidu and Dola Sree Bala Veeranjaneya Swamy, MLAs, collectors from nine districts, and senior officials from various departments participated in the meeting.
