The future of the Baahubali franchise has once again become a topic of discussion after the production team suggested that a third film could eventually become a reality.
Speaking during the launch of Baahubali: The Eternal War – Part 1 at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival 2026, producer Shobu Yarlagadda said the Baahubali universe offers far more stories than those shown in the first two films. He added that the possibility of expanding the franchise remains open if the right story emerges.
However, the producers clarified that no official decision has been made regarding the production of Baahubali 3. They emphasized that discussions about another live-action film are still at an early stage and that no release schedule or filming plans have been announced.
The upcoming animated feature is part of a broader effort to expand the Baahubali universe beyond cinema. The project aims to introduce audiences to new adventures set in the kingdom of Mahishmati while preserving the spirit of the original films.
The speculation surrounding Baahubali 3 has also gained momentum following the release of the Netflix documentary Baahubali: The Torchbearer. The documentary revisits the making of the iconic films and has reignited conversations among fans, many of whom believe the franchise still has significant potential for future stories.
Released in 2015 and 2017, Baahubali: The Beginning and Baahubali 2: The Conclusion became two of the biggest milestones in Indian cinema, breaking multiple box-office records and introducing Telugu cinema to a global audience.
Although director S.S. Rajamouli is currently focused on other projects, the production team's latest remarks have left the door open for a possible return to Mahishmati, giving fans renewed hope that the legendary franchise could continue in the future.
