Tollywood producer and Annapurna Studios representative Supriya Yarlagadda has been appointed as a member of the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). The Centre has reconstituted the censor board with a new panel of 18 members, with Supriya representing the Telugu film industry.
The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting issued an official notification on September 16, stating that the appointments were made in accordance with the provisions of the Cinematograph Act. The newly appointed members will serve a three-year term, with the orders coming into effect immediately.
The new CBFC panel includes several prominent names from the Indian film and entertainment industry, including Bollywood actors Preity Zinta, Suniel Shetty and Pankaj Tripathi, along with filmmaker Priyadarshan and Bengali actor Prosenjit Chatterjee.
Other members include Vinod Anupam, Manoj Joshi, Abhishek Jain, Ricky Kej, Hans Raj Hans, Yatindra Mishra, Rupali Ganguly, Nila Madhab Panda, Pallavi Joshi, Nishigandha Wad, Vaman Kendre and Ramesh Patange, among others.
Meanwhile, the new appointments have triggered mixed reactions on social media. Some users have questioned the representation given to the Tamil film industry, arguing that one of India’s major film industries has not received adequate representation in the new panel.
