A Singapore-flagged container ship, “Nawata Bhum,” ran aground in the Hooghly River while approaching Diamond Harbour.

The vessel reportedly lost steering control as strong currents caused by the high tide made it difficult to keep the ship within the designated channel. The container ship drifted toward the riverbank and struck the bank before becoming grounded.

Authorities are assessing the situation and investigating the incident. No further details on damage or casualties have been confirmed so far.
