A powerful earthquake has caused widespread devastation in Colombia, leaving at least 132 people dead and around 570 seriously injured, according to reports. Rescue and relief operations are underway, while authorities warn that the death toll could rise further.
The Colombian Geological Service has warned of the possibility of additional tremors following the major earthquake. The disaster partially damaged 1,575 homes, 18 health centres and 52 schools, while 61 buildings were completely destroyed, President Abelardo de la Espriella said.
“We will not leave our people alone. They are in our hearts, and we will work tirelessly for them,” the President said while addressing the media.
