US Ambassador to India Sergio Gor has issued a strong message to visa applicants, saying those who publicly post slogans such as “Death to America” should not expect to apply for a US visa without facing scrutiny.
Speaking at an Economic Times event, Gor said the United States has the right to decide who is permitted to enter the country, just as India determines who can enter its territory.
‘Those Days Are Over’
Gor said people cannot publicly express hostility towards the United States and then expect to enter the country without questions being asked.
He compared the approach with India’s own visa system, noting that countries have the authority to assess applicants before granting entry.
Visa Screening Under Focus
Gor’s comments come amid increased attention on US visa screening and immigration policies. He stressed that visa applicants should expect scrutiny based on their circumstances and conduct.
The remarks were made in the broader context of the US-India relationship and ongoing discussions over visas, trade and bilateral cooperation.
India-US Space Cooperation
During the event, Gor also spoke about cooperation between NASA and ISRO. He said NASA has invited ISRO to participate in future space missions aimed at returning humans to the Moon.
He said India has the technical capability to make a meaningful contribution to such missions, highlighting the growing cooperation between the two countries in the space sector.
Gor Criticises Media Reporting
The US envoy also expressed concern over what he described as inaccurate reporting in parts of the Indian media. He said some reports he had seen were significantly different from what he understood to be the actual facts.
