Marco Rubio met Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi on Saturday during his first official visit to India, aimed at strengthening bilateral ties between the two nations. The meeting comes amid efforts to recalibrate India-US relations that have faced challenges since mid-last year.
After the talks, PM Modi shared a post on X, saying he was happy to receive Rubio and that both leaders discussed the continued progress of the India-US Comprehensive Global Strategic Partnership, along with regional and global peace and security issues. He added that India and the United States would continue to work closely for global good.
Earlier in the day, Rubio arrived in Kolkata and visited the headquarters of Missionaries of Charity at the Mother House before flying to the national capital. “Landed in India. Looking forward to a great visit,” Rubio posted on social media.
