Despite ongoing tensions and war-like conditions between the United States and Iran in the Middle East, Indian ships continue to move through the strategically important Strait of Hormuz without major disruption. The narrow waterway handles nearly one-fifth of the world’s oil and LNG supplies, making it one of the most crucial maritime trade routes globally.

Indian authorities revealed that diplomatic coordination between India and Iran has helped ensure the safe movement of vessels through the sensitive region. Shipping Ministry official Opesh Kumar Sharma stated that coordination is being handled through the Ministry of External Affairs, while priorities for ship movement are decided along with the Petroleum and Fertilizers ministries.

At present, 13 Indian-flagged vessels are operating in the Strait of Hormuz. These include one LPG tanker, five crude oil tankers, one chemical tanker, three container ships, two bulk carriers, and one dredger.

Officials also noted that while public ship-tracking data could potentially be misused, it is currently helping authorities and observers monitor vessel movement effectively. Amid global energy uncertainty, the continued movement of Indian ships through the Strait of Hormuz is being seen as a major diplomatic and strategic success for India.
