The Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TGSRTC) has begun restoring a portion of its JBM electric bus fleet after completing mandatory fitness and safety inspections.
Officials confirmed that around 150 electric buses have cleared the required checks and are being gradually reintroduced into service across approved routes. These buses were earlier withdrawn following reported fire incidents and safety concerns involving certain units.
However, buses operating from the Karimnagar depot continue to remain off the roads as authorities are still awaiting a comprehensive technical report. The report is expected to assess battery performance, maintenance practices, and the causes behind the earlier incidents.
Transport officials have reiterated that passenger safety remains the top priority and that no vehicle will be allowed to operate without complete certification. Technical teams are currently reviewing systems and working alongside the manufacturer to identify and address potential issues.
The JBM technical team is collaborating with authorities to implement corrective measures and submit detailed findings. Only after full satisfaction of senior officials will the remaining buses be cleared for service.
The phased return of buses reflects TGSRTC’s cautious approach to balancing public transport needs with strict safety standards.
