A farmers' protest in Bhopal intensified on Wednesday after talks between the Madhya Pradesh government and representatives of the agitating farmers ended without a complete agreement. Soon after the nearly three-hour meeting concluded, protesters attempted to move ahead despite police appeals to remain calm, leading to a brief confrontation between the two sides.

The state government announced a series of measures aimed at addressing the concerns of farmers, including a significant increase in the procurement of moong (green gram) under the Minimum Support Price (MSP) scheme. However, farmer leaders said the announced measures did not fully address their key demands and decided to continue the agitation.

The protesters have been demanding 100% procurement of moong at MSP, changes to the e-token procurement system, and other reforms related to crop procurement. They argued that the current system has left many farmers struggling to sell their produce despite a good harvest.

Police maintained a heavy security presence around sensitive areas in Bhopal and used loudspeakers to appeal for calm as the situation briefly turned tense. Authorities said efforts are continuing to resolve the issue through dialogue, while farmer representatives indicated that the protest would continue until their demands are fully addressed.
