A POCSO case accused who had escaped from police custody at Afzalpur police station in Karnataka’s Kalaburagi district has been re-arrested following a swift search operation by the police.
According to officials, the accused managed to flee from the station during custody, prompting a large-scale search operation across the region. After reviewing CCTV footage and receiving intelligence inputs, police teams tracked down and re-arrested the individual within a short period.
The incident has raised serious concerns over security protocols at the police station, leading to administrative action. Authorities have suspended three police personnel, including those on duty at the time of the escape, pending a departmental inquiry into the lapse.
Senior officers have ordered a detailed investigation into how the accused was able to escape from custody and whether procedural negligence or other factors contributed to the incident. A report is expected to be submitted after reviewing all evidence, including station records and surveillance footage.
Police officials stated that stricter monitoring measures will be introduced to prevent such incidents in the future, especially in sensitive cases involving the POCSO Act.
