Heavy rainfall and strong winds in Delhi caused damage to vehicles and disrupted traffic after a large tree collapsed on cars in the city’s East of Kailash area.
The incident occurred on Raja Dhir Singh Marg, where a stationary Mercedes car was damaged after the tree suddenly fell on it. The impact damaged the vehicle’s roof and bonnet, while another car passing through the area was also affected by the falling branches.
No injuries were reported in the incident. According to officials, the Delhi Fire Service received information about the tree collapse and immediately sent a team to the spot.
The fallen tree temporarily blocked traffic movement on the road. Personnel from the Public Works Department (PWD) reached the location and began cutting and removing the tree to clear the carriageway and restore normal traffic flow.
The owner of the damaged Mercedes said such incidents could increase during the monsoon season and stressed the need for regular checks on weak trees and branches to prevent accidents.
Officials suggested that strong winds accompanying the rainfall may have caused the tree to collapse. The incident came as Delhi experienced intense weather conditions, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issuing a red alert for heavy rain and strong winds in the capital.
The rainfall provided relief to residents after a prolonged period of heat, but it also led to problems such as waterlogging, traffic congestion, and damage to property in several parts of Delhi.
Weather officials have advised residents to remain cautious during periods of heavy rain and strong winds, especially around old trees, construction areas, and open spaces where falling branches can pose risks.
The incident has once again highlighted the need for better monitoring and maintenance of roadside trees, particularly during the monsoon season when extreme weather events can increase the risk of accidents.
