The Press Information Bureau (PIB) Fact Check has issued a clarification after a purported resignation letter in the name of Prime Minister Narendra Modi went viral across social media platforms. The letter falsely claimed that the Prime Minister had stepped down from his position, leading to widespread speculation online.
In its fact-check, PIB categorically stated that the letter is fabricated and that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has not resigned. The agency urged people not to forward or believe the misleading document and advised citizens to verify such claims through official government channels before sharing them.
Officials warned that fake documents and misinformation can spread rapidly on social media, creating unnecessary confusion among the public. They emphasized the importance of checking facts through trusted and verified sources before reacting to sensational claims.
The incident comes amid increasing concerns over the spread of misinformation and digitally manipulated content online. In recent weeks, PIB has also issued multiple fact-checks debunking fake posts and AI-generated content falsely attributed to the Prime Minister and other government officials.
PIB reiterated that any official announcement related to the Prime Minister or the Government of India would be communicated only through authorized government platforms. Citizens have been encouraged to avoid sharing unverified content and to report suspicious claims through the official PIB Fact Check portal.
