In a significant gesture of cultural diplomacy, a portion of the sacred relics of Lord Buddha was airlifted from Delhi to Mongolia on Saturday aboard an Indian Air Force (IAF) IL-76 “Gajraj” aircraft. The relics have been sent for a special public exposition in Mongolia.

Sharing details of the mission on X, the IAF described the operation as a symbol of India’s enduring civilisational outreach and cultural ties. Revered across the Buddhist world as symbols of wisdom, compassion, and enlightenment, the sacred relics hold deep spiritual significance for the people of Mongolia.

The IAF stated that the exposition of the relics will further strengthen the centuries-old spiritual and cultural bond between India and Mongolia, united through their shared Buddhist heritage. The Air Force added that the mission carried not only priceless relics but also faith, heritage, and friendship across continents.
