The Election Commission of India has announced the schedule for the third phase of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls across 16 States and three Union Territories.
The poll body said the Phase-III schedule was prepared in coordination with the field machinery currently engaged in the ongoing Census house-listing exercise.
With the latest announcement, the SIR exercise will now cover almost the entire country, except Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh. The Election Commission said the schedule for these regions would be announced later after reviewing the completion of Phase-II of the Census and assessing weather conditions in snow-bound and mountainous areas.
As part of the large-scale voter verification drive, more than 3.94 lakh Booth Level Officers (BLOs) will conduct door-to-door visits to verify the details of 36.73 crore electors during the Enumeration Phase.
