India women’s cricket captain Harmanpreet Kaur has etched her name in T20 cricket history by surpassing MS Dhoni’s record for the most T20 final victories as captain.
Harmanpreet reached the milestone after leading India to a dominant 147-run victory over Sri Lanka in the women’s T20 gold-medal match at the 2026 Asian Games. India posted 216/3 before bowling Sri Lanka out for just 69.
The Asian Games triumph marked Harmanpreet’s 10th T20 final victory as captain, moving her past Dhoni’s tally of nine. She is now reported to be the first captain in men’s or women’s T20 cricket to reach 10 final wins.
Harmanpreet’s 10 T20 final victories include four Asia Cup titles, two Women’s T20 Challenge triumphs, two Women’s Premier League titles and two Asian Games gold medals.
The record came on a memorable day for Indian cricket. Smriti Mandhana scored 79 off 45 balls, while Shafali Verma made 48 and Richa Ghosh smashed an unbeaten 49 off 22 balls as India reached 216/3. India’s bowlers then dismantled Sri Lanka’s chase, with Deepti Sharma taking 3/6.
The victory also gave India its first gold medal of the 2026 Asian Games, with the women’s team successfully defending the T20 cricket title won at the 2023 Hangzhou Games.
