The Telangana government is set to transform the road infrastructure in remote villages by taking up major road development works under the Hybrid Annuity Model (HAM). The Panchayat Raj and Rural Development Department plans to develop a total of 17,300 km of Panchayat Raj roads across the state in three phases.
In the first phase, 2,162 roads covering 7,450 km will be developed, benefiting people across 96 Assembly constituencies. Nearly 90% of the works in the first phase will focus on upgrading and modernising existing roads.
The ambitious programme will be formally launched in Mulugu on August 16. Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy is scheduled to unveil the project’s foundation plaque and launch the works. Minister Seethakka is personally supervising the arrangements for the programme.
The roads have been prioritised to provide better connectivity from Gram Panchayats to Mandal headquarters, Mandal headquarters to district headquarters, and district headquarters to the state capital. The roads were identified after consultations with field-level officials, taking into account public needs, road importance and connectivity requirements.
The government has sanctioned ₹16,007.56 crore for the programme and aims to complete the construction and development works within 30 months.
The government believes that rural roads are more than just transportation links. They serve as vital bridges connecting farmers to markets, students to schools, patients to hospitals and villages to broader development opportunities. The massive road development programme is expected to significantly improve connectivity and accelerate development in remote rural areas of Telangana.
