Fans are eagerly awaiting the release of Shahid Kapoor, Rashmika Mandanna, and Kriti Sanon’s upcoming film Cocktail 2. The film is a sequel to the 2012 hit Cocktail, both directed by Homi Adajania.

At the film’s recent trailer launch event, Rashmika Mandanna spoke about her initial hesitation in accepting her character Diya and revealed how the role marked a significant departure from the kind of characters she has portrayed so far.

“I Was Really Scared,” Says Rashmika

Speaking at the event, Rashmika described Cocktail 2 as a refreshing blend of love, friendship, and emotional self-discovery.

“For me, Cocktail 2 feels like a beautiful mix of love, friendship and all the emotions that come with figuring life out. The trailer really captures the warmth and fun spirit of Diya, Ally and Kunal. Make it a movie outing with friends, partners and family and catch the experience on the big screen,” she said.

Explaining her decision to take up the role, she added, “I was really scared because this is by far the most urban I've looked in cinema. And because of my films thus far, I feel the audience expects a very serious, dramatic performance from me. But for the first time, I’ve done something light-hearted, focused on friendship, madness and love. I kept wondering if this was the right move, but at the same time I felt I had to do it because I’ve never done anything like this before. I felt the audience also wants something new and surprising.”

Rashmika’s Career Journey

Rashmika Mandanna has largely been known for portraying soft-spoken and emotionally driven characters. She made her breakthrough with the Kannada film Kirik Party and gained wider recognition in Telugu cinema with Geetha Govindam, opposite Vijay Deverakonda.

She went on to star in successful films such as Dear Comrade, Pushpa: The Rise, and its sequel. Rashmika made her Hindi debut with Goodbye alongside Amitabh Bachchan, while her major breakthrough in Bollywood came with Animal, one of the biggest hits of her career.

About ‘Cocktail 2’

Since the release of the trailer, fans have been speculating whether the film explores a lesbian love angle. However, director Homi Adajania has dismissed such rumours.

The trailer suggests that Shahid Kapoor and Rashmika Mandanna’s characters share a romantic bond, while Kriti Sanon plays a free-spirited young woman who is close friends with Shahid’s character. As the story unfolds, her character appears to develop feelings for him, creating an emotional triangle.

The film is scheduled to release in theatres on June 19.
