The allegations surfaced in 2021 after former Mumbai Police Commissioner Param Bir Singh claimed in a letter to the then Chief Minister that Mr. Deshmukh had instructed police officers to collect Rs 100 crore a month from bars, restaurants and other establishments in Mumbai.
